Dilip Kumar’s Role In Aag Hi Aag Was Given To Dharmendra, Credit Goes To Govinda’s Sensational Dance In Ilzaam
Here’s how Dharmendra came on board for Aag Hi Aag film, replacing Dilip Kumar, courtesy - Govinda and his sensational dance in Ilzaam
The 1987 multi-starrer film, Aag Hi Aag starring Dharmendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Moushumi Chatterjee, Chunky Pandey, Neelam and Danny Denzongpa was one of the biggest hits back then. However, there’s a little interesting anecdote related to the star cast of the film that we came across and we bet you didn’t know this. Well, the role of Bahadur Singh / Sher Singh in the film was nearly finalised with actor Dilip Kumar but he got replaced by Dharmendra, all thanks to actor Govinda and his sensational dance steps in Ilzaam.
According to the producer of Ilzaam and Aag Hi Aag and the former Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Pahlaj Nihalani revealed this interesting fact about the film. He told that he had gone to Ramgarh to spend some time with his close friend Shatrughan Sinha who was shooting there with Dharmendra for Loha. Recalling the incident, Pahlaj Nihalani shared to TOI, "When I reached the sets of 'Loha' and people saw me, they started chanting slogans of some dialogues from 'Ilzaam. When Dharmendra saw me- and it was our first meeting- he came up to me dancing a few steps that Govinda had done in 'Ilzaam'. Jokingly, he said 'mujhe bhi Govinda jaise dance karvao'. This happened in public who went mad because Dharmendra is a very shy person when it comes to dancing."
Added Nihalani, "We had dinner post that and I asked Dharmendra if he would like to do my next film 'Aag Hi Aag'. I told him then and there that he will have a very pivotal and integral part but he would have to play a father. Dharmendra said he was game.”
